With at least one band member taking up residence in the Bendigo suburb of Quarry Hill, The Quarry Hillbillies is made up of long time musical compadres Chris Jacobs and Mike St. Clair-Miller.  From Bluegrass toe-tappers to country tear jerkers… from rockabilly hits to blues classics: the Quarry Hillbillies are a blend of fine musicianship, sweet vocal harmonies and elaborate dance routines*.

(*band members may not actually be able to dance… at all… but they do have a sense of humor)

Chris Jacobs caught the Bluegrass bug around 20 years ago and has had an obsession with the music ever since.  Chris was previously a member of the Canberra based Department of Bluegrass then went on to front top Melbourne Bluegrass band, Hardrive.  Chris is regarded as one of Australia's finest bluegrass singers and has a natural ability to emulate the “high-lonesome” vocals the genre is known for.  Chris has a love of Rock ‘n’ Roll, sad country songs and Aussie covers. Combining his vocals with a driving, solid rhythm guitar, Chris is an integral part of the exciting music The Quarry Hillbillies are known for. Chris plays a Gallacher guitar, hand made by Joe Gallacher in Albury, New South Wales.

Mike St. Clair-Miller is the double-bass maestro that drives the Quarry Hillbillies. His playing is dependable, on time and always tasteful.  Along with his masterful bass playing Mike is a superb vocalist and an invaluable addition to the harmonies of the Quarry Hillbillies. Mike has played with some of the country’s best roots music bands, including The Starliners and Benny & the Fly-by-Niters.  He has performed all over Australia, in 2000 played throughout the South-Western United States with the Starliners and in 2003 toured Europe for 4 weeks with Benny & the Fly-by-Niters. Mike plays a 1940s Hofner double bass.
